Best Time to Go:
You may see juvenile bald eagles learning to fly in spring, and the mature eagles at any time of year. Woodpeckers are present in the woods all winter. Beginning in early spring, great blue herons and many kinds of raptors visit. Except for holiday weekends when the campground is full and hot summer days when the swimming beach is busy, Lone Star is a quiet place for a walk.
Directions:
Take Douglas County Route 458 west and turn south at Route 1, then follow the road to the dam of the lake. Turn left and follow the road around the lake.
